Industrial Dust Collection Systems

Dust collection systems are used to remove particulate from process gases for use in pollution control, product/material recovery, and pneumatic conveying. This process is also useful for capturing valuable materials that may have other industrial uses.

Aerodyne specializes in cyclone dust collectors. Cyclones are often used as pre-filters for other dust collectors, such as baghouses, cartridge collectors, ESPs and wet scrubbers. Cyclones use mechanical separation to remove particulates and droplets from the airstream without filters. This can also allow cyclones to sort waste from valuable materials as they collect the larger particles and send fines to the final filter.

Aerodyne has two (2) unique cyclone designs that provide high efficiency dust collection with certain advantages over standard cyclone designs.

How a Cyclone Works

Cyclones remove dust particles and liquid droplets by centrifugal motion. Dirty air enters the cyclone and rotates down the length of the vessel. The rotation causes the particles and droplets to move towards the walls. When the airflow reaches the bottom it reverses direction and travels up the center of the cyclone and out. Particles that are by the cyclone’s walls then fall to the hopper and leave through the airlock valve.

The GPC Cyclone Dust Collector does not require a long, tapered body making it ideal for plants and workshops with limited floor space or overhead clearance.

Aerodyne SplitStream™ Cyclone Dust Collector

The Aerodyne SplitStream™ Dust Collector is a counter cyclonic dust collector with no major moving components. It is capable of handling a wide range of materials with minimal maintenance. The unique counter cyclonic design eliminates excessive wear and allows the collection of abrasive material. The cyclone can be installed vertically or horizontally.

Our engineering team will work with you every step of the way, and provide approval drawings for review and modification before fabrication begins. The cyclones we have are designed to be compact, with the ability to fit into spaces most cyclones couldn’t dream to fit in. We also have a team of local representatives who are well versed in dust collection and can often offer you a complete system, service and support. Aerodyne can often supply 3D models of their units during quoting so you can fit them into your drawings to ensure there are no issues.

There are many factors that go into choosing the right cyclone at the right size for your application. Our engineering staff can help you with calculating the airflow passing through your system (the most important factor for sizing purposes), as well as temperature and pressure, the type of dust, the location where the cyclone will be installed, fan properties, material of construction, and any special considerations. Aerodyne’s cyclones are designed to handle a variety of dust types. Although the model of cyclone does generally dictate dust handling capabilities, our cyclones can handle abrasive, heavy, fibrous, sticky, hygroscopic, fine, and other “tough” dusts. Some cyclones are able to handle combustible & explosive dusts with the proper NFPA explosion equipment and venting as well.

A cyclone prefilter is a cyclone installed ahead of a baghouse or cartridge collector in a dust collection system to increase the removal efficiency of the system.

Aerodyne offers trickle valves, double dump valves, knife gate valves, and sturdy rotary valves. Airlock valves are a necessary component of dust collection systems to prevent air leakage and pressure changes, which can cause a variety of other issues within the system.

  • Trickle Valves like the Vacu-Valve– Trickle valves are passive, non-powered discharge valves that operate under negative pressure.
  • Double Dump Valve– This is an industrial airlock valve with two tandem doors to discharge material without losing pressure or jamming.
  • Knife Gate Valve – Designed for precise hopper control, the knife gate is a basic airlock that discharges material and helps to preserve a system’s airlock.
  • Rotary Valve – Aerodyne offers a high capacity, non-NFPA rotary valve for non-combustible applications.
